The Thought
Did you know... A study by Gallup found that 70% of employee engagement is directly influenced by their manager or leader. Managers who focus solely on tasks and results miss the opportunity to connect with their people, which often leads to burnout and turnover. Leaders, however, prioritize relationships—and the results follow naturally.
“Take care of your people, and they’ll take care of the numbers.” – Simon Sinek
Focusing on people first creates a ripple effect: engaged employees are more productive, innovative, and loyal.

The Tip
Remember to… Ask meaningful, people-centered questions (I call these 3-layer spark questions) in your next one-on-one, such as:
- How are you feeling about your workload right now?
- Is there anything outside of work that’s impacting you?
- What’s one thing I can do to better support you?
By shifting from a task-focused to a people-focused conversation, you’ll show genuine care and foster stronger connections. This small shift can transform how your team perceives you as a leader.
