The Thought
Did you know… repeated “I forgot” isn’t a memory issue — it’s a system issue?
Forgetting once is human.
Repeating it means something is missing in how the work is being tracked or owned.
Leaders don’t rely on reminders.
They build systems people can rely on.
Quote:
“We don’t rise to the level of our goals. We fall to the level of our systems.” – James Clear

The Tip
Remember to…
1. Shift from memory to system
A manager says:
“You need to remember.”
A leader says:
“If this keeps happening, it’s not memory — it’s the system.”
Then ask:
- “What system do you have in place to track this?”
- “What would prevent this from being missed again?”
You’re not fixing forgetfulness.
You’re fixing the process.
2. Make the cost visible
A manager reacts:
“This is frustrating.”
A leader creates awareness:
“When this gets missed, here’s what it creates downstream…”
Then ask:
- “Who gets impacted when this slips?”
- “What chain reaction does this create?”
People don’t change because of pressure.
They change when they see the impact.
3. Turn it into a commitment device
A manager warns:
“Don’t let it happen again.”
A leader co-creates:
“What safeguard are we putting in place today?”
Then lock it in:
- “What will you do differently starting now?”
- “How will we know this is solved?”
Change sticks when it becomes a system — not a reminder.
Managers push compliance.
Leaders build systems that create success.
