The Thought
Did you know... “Employees who feel supported during tough conversations are 5 times more likely to stay engaged and perform better” (source: Zenger & Folkman). Leaders create a safe space for tough conversations, making them opportunities for growth instead of conflict. They foster an environment where feedback is seen as constructive, not punitive.

The Tip
Remember to… Focus on facts, not assumptions. Avoid making the conversation about emotions or judgments. Use the SBI model: Situation, Behavior, and Impact. This allows you to address the issue directly, without attacking the individual’s character, and provides clarity on what needs to be corrected.
Bonus Tip: Be specific and clear about the next steps for improvement. Focus on how the team member can evolve and grow, not just what went wrong. This can be framed as a growth opportunity that will lead to future success.
